“Ain’t Misbehavin’ ”, the Tony Award-winning Fats Waller musical revue, will hit the road in a 30th-anniversary national tour headlined by “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard and one-time “American Idol” contestant Frenchie Davis, whose stage credits include “Rent” and “Dreamgirls.”
Presented by Big League Productions, the tour will be staged by Richard Maltby Jr., who wrote and directed the original 1978 Broadway production that featured breakout star Nell Carter. Maltby “has always wanted to re-create the original Broadway choreography and direction,” said Big League spokesman John Starr, “and he had this idea of casting Ruben Studdard, and it kind of went from there.”
The revue, which features such Waller classics as “Honeysuckle Rose” and the title song, will launch Nov. 14 in upstate New York, landing at the Wilshire Theatre in Los Angeles March 10-15, 2009.
