Jagr’s goal lifts surging Rangers

Jaromir Jagr scored with a shot off the stick of defenseman Rob Scuderi with 33 seconds left Monday night, giving the host New York Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The goal ended Pittsburgh’s winning streak at five games and improved to 7-1-3 a run by the surging Rangers, who moved past idle Carolina into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

Vancouver 2, Edmonton 1 -- Daniel Sedin had a goal and an assist, and the Canucks extended the host Oilers’ winless streak to 11 games.

The NHL suspended Nashville Predators forward Jordin Tootoo five games for punching and knocking unconscious Dallas Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas in a game Saturday at Nashville.... Hall of Famer Mike Gartner resigned from the NHL Players’ Assn. after eight years late Monday, about a week after two top union officials were put on leave because of allegations they ordered the monitoring of NHLPA player e-mail.
