* at Milwaukee 6, Houston 3 (11 innings): Damian Miller went to the plate in the 11th inning with a rather simple goal. “I was looking not to strike out, basically,” he said. The backup catcher hit his first homer of the season, a game-winning three-run shot. The Brewers finished an 8-1 homestand, won for the 12th time in 14 games overall and improved the league’s best record to 46-32.

* at Chicago 6, Colorado 4: Mark DeRosa hit a three-run homer and Mike Fontenot had a solo shot to help the Cubs extend their winning streak to six games -- their longest since a seven-game run from May 27-June 2, 2005.

* Pittsburgh 7, at Florida 5 (10 innings): Xavier Nady and Ryan Doumit hit back-to-back home runs with two out in the 10th, and the Pirates won consecutive road games for the first time in a month. Nady hit his second solo homer of the game to give Pittsburgh a 6-5 lead. Four pitches later, Doumit followed with his homer.

* at New York 2, St. Louis 0 (5 1/2 innings): Tom Glavine earned his 297th win, pitching one-hit ball for six innings in a rain-shortened game. David Wright hit a two-run homer off Anthony Reyes in the first inning, and the Mets made it stand up for their fifth victory in six games.

* at Atlanta 13, Washington 0: Chipper Jones drove in four runs, helping the Braves complete a three-game sweep. Atlanta had a season-high 22 hits and scored in six of the first seven innings to sweep the three-game series.

* Cincinnati 9, at Philadelphia 6: Javier Valentin hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning and Adam Dunn had a two-run homer in the ninth.

* San Diego 4, at San Francisco 2: Greg Maddux earned his 340th victory, and Trevor Hoffman finished for his 503rd save and 21st in 23 chances this season.

* at Arizona 2, Dodgers 0: Derek Lowe, who yielded only three hits and an unearned run through six innings, left after giving up Eric Byrnes’ two-out RBI single in the seventh.
