Loan confusion borrowers’ fault

Regarding “Confusion rife for borrowers, study finds,” June 14: When borrowers in the Federal Trade Commission study are fuzzy on the details, this is more indicative of rampant illiteracy in our society than of confusing loan disclosure statements. The federal Truth in Lending Act made it easy to locate loan terms.
Instead of just giving Times readers a story about the sorry state of the borrowing public, you might better serve them with an article explaining how to dissect Truth in Lending disclosures.
