A woman was killed instantly when her car flew off a freeway interchange in Anaheim and plunged 75 feet to the ground, authorities said.
A 10-month-old boy in a car seat in the back of the vehicle appeared to be unharmed, said Katrina Lundgren, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol. “This is why we are always pushing the importance of safety restraints,” she said.
The woman was driving 80 mph over the carpool interchange connecting the eastbound 91 Freeway to the northbound 57 Freeway when she braked suddenly and lost control, Lundgren said. Her name and her relationship to the baby were not released because her family had not yet been notified.
Emergency medical personnel “are checking the baby, but he looks completely unscathed,” Lundgren said.
