Re “Tribe’s canyon Skywalk opens one deep divide,” Feb. 11
When I first read about the Grand Canyon Skywalk, I optimistically envisioned a simple, graceful glass and steel arch complementing the landscape, perhaps recalling Eero Saarinen’s Gateway Arch in St. Louis. Instead, the artist’s rendering you pictured showed us an intrusive piece of Southwestern architecture that looks as if it should have gurgling cheese and pepperoni toppings. If the Hualapai tribe wants to build a profitable $40-million attraction, it needs a design makeover because I doubt Pizza Hut would buy in.
