Roman Polanski is set to direct an adaptation of bestselling British author Robert Harris’ novel “Pompeii,” about the Roman city’s final days in AD 79 before Mount Vesuvius erupted.
What is expected to be Polanski’s biggest and most expensive movie undertaking will begin production in the summer, Harris told the Sunday Times of London, following a story about the movie late last week in Daily Variety.
Polanski, 73, also has a role in “Rush Hour 3,” which is filming in Paris.
He won the Academy Award for best director for “The Pianist,” but his subsequent movie version of “Oliver Twist” was less successful.
