A SPRITZ OF SAKS

WHAT does shopping smell like?
According to the New York perfume house Bond no. 9, it’s hard-hitting gardenia and creamy vanilla (if you’re a girl) and grassy marine notes and woodsy incense (if you’re a boy).
To us, Bond’s new fragrances -- named Saks Fifth Avenue and supposedly inspired by the eau de store -- smelled kind of old, like that sales clerk who’s been behind the counter since 1957.
But considering how Saks’ sales are booming -- the chain raked in millions more than its nearest competitors last month, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers -- they should probably smell like money.
Saks Fifth Avenue for Her is available Sept. 1 and Saks Fifth Avenue for Him, on Oct. 1 (each is $125 for 1.7 ounces), exclusively at the department store and www.bondno9.com.
