Kept in stitches

THOUGH I am a childless senior citizen, I read the Kids’ Reading Room page regularly. The thesis of last week’s story was clear enough [“Boys Knitting? Awesome!,” by Marjorie Flathers, May 1-5], but there is a corollary for an older audience. A boy (or man) knitting is a chick magnet. I learned that on many a flight some decades back, where pulling out a pair of knitting needles or a crochet hook attracted flight attendants (we called them “stewardesses” then) more quickly than pushing a call button.
Thank you for the Kids’ Reading Room and for its consistent quality. In this story, it stirred happy memories, but it often makes me wish that that quality were maintained on the pages intended for adults.
