Combs’ faux pas with faux faux fur

Finally, there’s an answer to the musical question, “Who let the dogs out?” Turns out P. Diddy did it.
After testing by the Humane Society of the United States discovered that Sean Combs’ Sean John Hooded Snorkel Jackets, marketed as using faux fur, actually contained raccoon dog fur, Combs and such national retailers as Macy’s have pulled the coats from shelves.
Humane Society President Wayne Pacelle said Friday that the problem was rooted in the practices of Chinese manufacturers, affecting several clothing lines, and the designers likely were unaware.
But the issue points up how difficult it is for consumers to be sure that faux fur is really faux, he said.
“Our investigators were told by fur sellers in China that ‘We will put on any label you want,’ ” Pacelle said.
Spokesmen for the retailers couldn’t be reached Friday for comment. Combs, in a statement, thanked the Humane Society for discovering the truth.
“I was completely unaware of the nature of this material, but as soon as we were alerted, the garments were pulled off the Macy’s floor and website,” Combs said. “I have instructed our outerwear licensee to cease the production of any garments using this material immediately.”
