New owner of hotel to reinstate 12 fired workers

Twelve union activists who lost their jobs this week when a new company bought the Sheraton Four Points hotel near LAX will be rehired, officials said.
The dozen are being reinstated under a deal brokered with the hotel by officials including Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez (D-Los Angeles) and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
Onofre Gallegos, a vice president for the new owner, San Diego-based American Property Management Co., said that the initial decision to let the 12 workers go was unrelated to their efforts to organize a union at the hotel and that it largely reflected an efficiency move.
Gallegos said his company agreed to rehire the workers after being approached by public officials, because “we want to be part of the community.”
