Rates on 15-, 30-year mortgages rise slightly

Mortgage giant Freddie Mac reported that 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.12%, up from 6.11% last week. Rates on 15-year, fixed-rate mortgages, a popular choice for refinancing, averaged 5.86% this week, up from 5.84% last week.

For one-year adjustable-rate mortgages, rates edged up to 5.45%, compared with 5.43% last week. Five-year adjustable-rate mortgages were unchanged from last week at 5.92%.

The mortgage rates do not include add-on fees known as points. Thirty-year mortgages carried a nationwide average fee of 0.4 of a point, while the 15-year had a fee of 0.5 of a point. The five-year was at 0.6 of a point and one-year mortgages carried a fee of 0.8 of a point.
