A Metrolink commuter train bound for downtown Riverside late Wednesday afternoon struck and killed a man standing on the tracks in the City of Industry, authorities said.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the fatality is believed to be a suicide.
The incident disrupted the commutes of about 2,500 passengers on seven trains traveling east from Union Station in Los Angeles on a line extending to downtown Riverside.
Authorities said the accident occurred about 4:40 p.m. between Metrolink’s Montebello/Commerce and Industry stations, near the Pomona Freeway and 7th Avenue.
The Metrolink train that struck the victim, who was described only as an adult male, was halted for three hours as investigators examined the scene.
