Two men who stole a car from a Tustin dealership late Tuesday were struck and killed when they tried to run across the Santa Ana Freeway, officials said.
The men were not identified by authorities, pending notification of relatives.
The theft occurred about 9:30 p.m. at the Infiniti dealership at the Tustin Auto Center near Tustin Ranch Road and the Santa Ana Freeway, officials said.
The two men sped away in a Lincoln sedan and crashed into a raised median a short distance away, police said.
The men apparently got out of the stolen car and ran to the freeway.
The men were able to cross the northbound traffic lanes but were struck by at least three cars when they tried to cross the southbound lanes, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jennifer Hink.
The motorists called the CHP to report that they had run over something.
The men died at the scene.
