Chicago 6, at Milwaukee 3: The Cubs, playing the opener of a nine-game trip after an 8-3 homestand, gave starter Carlos Marmol (5-5) all the runs he needed with a five-run first.
at Cincinnati 10, St. Louis 3: Ryan Freel had three hits and made a sensational catch on Albert Pujols’ warning-track drive with two on in the fifth. Cincinnati matched its season high with 17 hits.
at Atlanta 3, Philadelphia 1: Tim Hudson (9-10) pitched his best game in nearly two months, striking out eight in seven scoreless innings, giving up six hits and driving in a run.
Florida 4, at Washington 2: Miguel Cabrera had three hits and drove in a run and Dan Uggla hit his 17th homer to back Ricky Nolasco (10-7), who gave up two runs and five hits with no walks in 6 1/3 innings.
at Arizona 5, San Francisco 1: Orlando Hudson scored twice and drove in a run for the Diamondbacks, who moved within 1 1/2 games of first-place San Diego in the NL West.
