A San Diego man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a fiery crash early Wednesday in which his 29-year-old passenger was killed.
Neither man was identified.
The 1992 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling south on the Santa Ana Freeway about 1:30 a.m. when it crashed into the wall of the Barranca Parkway overpass and burst into flames, authorities said.
The driver, 32, sustained major internal injuries and was hospitalized. The passenger, from Point Loma in San Diego County, was unable to escape from the car and died at the scene.
