What about all of those bad air days?

“Polluted Paradise” [Sept. 13] overexaggerated the effects of bad air in Sequoia National Park. Granted, it’s unpleasant at times, but to leave an image of hikers strewn along the trails gasping for air and dying is manipulative spin. Are all the joggers and bike riders in Los Angeles collapsing on the sidewalks for the same reason? Do the police get to them “in time with oxygen and inhalers to help them catch their wind, but not always”?

My hope is that steps will be taken to reduce the smog levels in the San Joaquin Valley, which in turn, will reduce the damage in these national parks.
