Fan misbehavior is not limited to Oakland, but the home of the NFL’s Raiders is back on the national police blotter because a man arrested at the McAfee Coliseum faces multiple charges for allegedly dumping beer on Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees.
“If sports fans need psychologists, Oakland sports fans need straitjackets,” wrote columnist Dave Krieger of the Rocky Mountain News.
“It’s not necessarily congenital. Mental health experts agree massive exposure to Al Davis over a sustained period can cause bizarre behavior that medical science has yet to decipher.

Jacked-up prices: Since March, the Detroit Pistons have offered for sale four floor seats next to each of the team benches at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Angelique S. Chengelis of the Detroit News wrote that the coveted seats initially were “dubbed ‘The Jack Nicholson Seats’ because of their location,” and the Academy Award winner’s preference for sitting near the Laker bench.
Tickets for what are now known as the Super-VIP seats went for $1,500 each during the regular season and the first round of the playoffs, $2,000 for the Eastern Conference semifinals.
They will increase to $2,500 apiece if the Pistons are in the Eastern Conference finals and $5,000 if they reach the NBA Finals.

Jumpin’ Jacked-up prices: A chance to see the Rolling Stones at Fenway Park has created Green Monster-sized demand to see Mick Jagger and his bandmates.
The Aug. 21 and 23 shows at the famed stadium are sold out. According to the Boston Herald, on Monday a single front-row seat was listed at $3,535 on ticketsnow.com. Starting bids on eBay for similar tickets began at $3,999, the newspaper reported.
“The Rolling Stones are probably the most legendary band still actively playing,” Kenneth Dotson, chief marketing officer for ticketsnow.com, told the Herald. “So it’s a chance to see history. Throw in a unique, historic venue like Fenway Park and you have a new level of excitement for the concert.”
Bruce Springsteen and Jimmy Buffett also played at Fenway Park. Dotson told the Herald that $1,675 was the highest price for a Springsteen ticket on ticketsnow.com in 2003. A Buffet ticket went for $810.

And finally: Dwight Perry of the Seattle Times, noting that fans of the feeble Tampa Bay Devil Rays are trying to organize a walkout to protest another bad product on the field: “Considering the D-Rays drew only 9,414 for their last home game, shouldn’t they stage a walk-in first?”
