Unrestricted Access to White House Briefings?

Re “White House Notebook,” Feb. 25: I was disappointed to see that after ignoring the Jeff Gannon story, your first mention of it was largely to make light of it. There is far more to this story than Gannon/Guckert being [among the] “unusual personalities.”
How he gained access to the White House briefing room needs to be answered. The Bush administration may not have total control over who gets in the room, but it certainly knows everything about everyone the president might call on at those briefings.
And let’s not forget the double standard. If this had happened under a Democratic administration, we would be hip deep in congressional hearings by now.
Journalism is dead.
