Fur flies about animal passengers

I must reply to William M. Kapitanoff’s statement [Letters, June 26] that “it’s people who fly on airplanes and pay for the tickets.” When I’ve flown with my fur children, a cairn terrier and dachshund, I’ve paid for their travel. For $150 round trip per “child,” they are stored in a carrier under the seat in front of me.

What do they get for $150? Nothing! Oh, and by the way, they are required to have a health certificate 10 days before travel. Bet you can’t say that about the person next to you.

Kapitanoff not only shares the comfort of flying with other travelers, but he also shares their recycled air. If an encounter with an animal will send him into a medical emergency, he shouldn’t fly.

I hope that next time I travel, dog or no dog, I don’t sit next to a complainer, so I can ensure my flying comfort.
