Corona Police Shoot Man

A Corona man who earlier this month failed to appear in court on two attempted-murder charges was in critical condition Friday night after being shot several times by Corona police, who found him hiding in a garage, officials said.
Anthony Joseph Barton, 27, had been charged with attempted murder, attempted murder of a police officer, assault on a peace officer with an automatic weapon and eight other felonies stemming from a March 2002 exchange of gunfire with Corona police.
When Barton didn’t appear for his court hearing, a Superior Court judge increased his bail to $10 million from $1 million, and Corona police announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
Police received a tip Friday that Barton was in Corona.
A SWAT team found him in the garage of a home in the 900 block of West Crestview Street and gunfire erupted, Corona police said.
