Joplin estate seeks ‘modern-day Janis’

Thirty-five years after her death, the estate of Janis Joplin said Friday it was planning a TV show and concert tour that would pay tribute to the famed rock singer.
Dubbed the Joplin Project, the three-phase plan was described in a press release as consisting of “a televised talent search that will look for a modern-day Janis, a concert tour featuring the winner of the talent search and a televised all-star tribute concert.” The tour would be this year, the TV concert in 2006.
“We are excited about bringing Janis and her music to her fans and [introducing] her style and spirit to future fans as well,” said Michael Joplin, her brother.
