Caltrans Officials Give Canyon Drivers a Break

Reacting to residents’ complaints, state transportation officials on Thursday extended the use of storm-damaged Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
Flagmen will allow alternating lanes of traffic past a washout from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., an increase of three hours. Motorists will continue to have use of the roadway between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Last week, residents asked Caltrans to lengthen travel times so motorists would not have to use dangerous or lengthy detours at night.
Caltrans disclosed Thursday that newly discovered geologic problems will extend the $1.27-million repair project by one month, to early May.
