The Democrats Are at a Crossroads
The pundits have all but written the obituaries of the Democratic Party. They cite the lack of core cultural values as the reason. The fact is the Democratic Party has maintained, and continues to exhibit, strong American values that focus on the working man and the middle class. Democrats have nothing to fear, be ashamed of, or change.
However, the moderate Republicans do have serious concerns. They are about to be written into extinction by the neoconservatives who want nothing less than a theocracy in America.
Perhaps moderate Republicans should consider seceding and forming their own party. Their leverage would increase because they could ally themselves with moderate policies from the Democrats, and/or force concessions from the right wing.

Re “The Democratic Party Is Just Fine, Thank You,” letters, Nov. 17: Really, having become the minority party by being the party of the minority (poor African Americans, poor Latino Americans, labor unions and Hollywood elitists), they have lost touch with the rest of America. If the Democrats think their party is just fine, well, here is one Republican who says hold on to that feeling and thank you for not changing.
