Ticker Tape Leads Parade

For the first time since she arrived in the U.S. last year, Ticker Tape will be running in a race that doesn’t include Mambo Slew.

The fillies have split the victories in their four meetings with Ticker Tape winning the last two. She will be favored today against seven opponents in the $100,000 Senorita Stakes at a mile over the Hollywood Park turf course.

Trained by Jim Cassidy, Ticker Tape will be making her first start at Hollywood Park since Nov. 28. In her first in this country, she was second to Mambo Slew in the Miesque.

With Kent Desormeaux busy with Imperialism in the Preakness, Corey Nakatani will ride Ticker Tape for the first time. Also in the field are Fortunately, Amorama, Sauceonside, Miss Vegas, Winendynme, Freakin Streakin and Taygete. Fortunately is also trained by Cassidy, Amorama was second in the Providencia, and Miss Vegas will be making her first start for owner Ed Gann and trainer Bobby Frankel after winning five of six in Italy.

Race of the day: Prospective Saint, who has won three in a row after finishing third in her debut, is among 10 3-year-old fillies scheduled to go five furlongs on the Churchill Downs turf course in the $100,000 Open Mind. Other contenders are Dazzle Me Victoire Bataille, Movant and Anna Em.

One for the road: Ball Four, a son of Grand Slam, has trained well for his first start and is not meeting a strong group in the 13th at Pimlico.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using M.P. Cat in the third, Eastern Point and Hendrix in the fourth and Four Corners, Forlaan, Rock The Stone and Soldierofpleasure in the fifth.
