Controversy can’t save a bad play

Mike BOEHM’S piece on “Mr. Marmalade” at South Coast Rep is all about the controversy surrounding the play (“Dark Comedy, Strong Reactions,” May 11). It misses the main problem. “Mr. Marmalade” is simply a bad play. Its controversial elements are there to cover for the fact that the play is basically a high school plot, amateurishly acted.
