The city of Fresno is building an outdoor “drunk tank” to hold anyone caught “impaired by alcohol,” city officials said.
Fresno City Council gave the nonprofit Fresno Rescue Mission a contract to run a holding tank designed to accommodate the half-dozen drunks the city houses each day, while saving about $415,000 a year in jail fees.
The tank -- which the police call an “alternative placement for inebriated individuals” -- will be on a city-owned lot.
