Redirect This Energy

Re “Hoax Allegation Evokes Fallout,” March 23: Concerning the vandalism imbroglio at the Claremont Colleges, one good thing may come out of the whole mess: Perhaps the blindly self-righteous among us will be less willing to jump on the barricades at every perceived “hate crime.”
Decades of politically correct absurdities shoved down our throats have conditioned us to wildly (and comically) overreact with protest marches, candlelight vigils and lickspittle communal noodling every time that ol’ phantom “Bad Whitey” comes a’ night-ridin’ through town. This pathetic, anachronistic nonsense accomplishes nothing and burns up energy that could be used working on the real problems of society.
