Mission San Juan Capistrano has received a $225,000 grant to complete the Great Stone Church’s 13-year restoration project, Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Newport Beach) announced Wednesday.
The money was awarded to the mission in January when President Bush signed the Department of Housing and Urban Development budget, which included $225,000 for the Great Stone Church. The project is expected to be completed in June.
In October, the House passed a Cox-sponsored bill that authorized $10 million for repairing and preserving the 21 missions in California.
