Attempted Escape Adds to Inmate’s Jail Time

An inmate at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles was sentenced to an additional 41 months behind bars Monday for helping a former cellmate in an aborted breakout.
Thomas Tynan, who was serving time for passing counterfeit currency, was to help smuggle cutting tools to Louri Mikhel, charged in the kidnap and murder of five people. Mikhel hauled the tools up to his fifth-floor window by rope. The plot was foiled by prison guards last March.
