High Court Says Man Can Sue Archdiocese

The state Supreme Court said Wednesday that an Orange County man can sue the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for allegedly transferring a known pedophile from Wisconsin to work as a priest in California.
Eric Paino alleges that Sigfried Widera, who committed suicide last year, molested him in California in 1985, when Paino was 8.
Paino is seeking unspecified monetary damages.
Without comment, the high court let stand an Orange County appellate court’s ruling that said the archdiocese “knew Widera was a pedophile and posed a serious threat.”
