A 19-year-old Anaheim man died Wednesday after slipping and becoming pinned beneath the wheels of a friend’s car as he ran alongside it, authorities said.
The victim was identified by police as Matthew Napolitano.
The accident occurred about 5 p.m. in a parking lot of the Casa Bonita Apartments in the 200 block of North Gilbert Avenue as the friend, also 19, drove toward the street after a visit with Napolitano. “We’re not quite sure what happened,” said Sgt. Rick Martinez, a spokesman for the Anaheim Police Department, “but somehow he was near the vehicle and then became trapped under it. It’s a very tragic accident.”
The death remains under investigation, Martinez said.
