No. 24 Virginia Hands Auburn First Loss

Freshman Sean Singletary scored 25 points Friday night as No. 24 Virginia overcame a big game by Auburn freshman Toney Douglas to defeat the Tigers, 89-87, at Richmond, Va.
Singletary scored eight points during a late 10-5 run when the Cavaliers (6-0) went ahead to stay. J.R. Reynolds made three free throws in the last 29.5 seconds to clinch the victory.
Douglas scored 33 points for the Tigers (5-1), who lost for the first time under Coach Jeff Lebo.

No. 23 Iowa 88, Centenary 53 -- The Hawkeyes (5-1) broke the game open with a 30-8 run in the second half to rout the Gents (0-4) in the first round of the Hawkeye Challenge at Iowa City. The Hawkeyes will play North Carolina Greensboro for the title today.

North Carolina Greensboro 79, Southern Mississippi 78 -- Ricky Hickman made a free throw with 1.5 seconds left and the Spartans (4-1) spoiled Coach Larry Eustachy’s return to Iowa. Eustachy is in his first season with the Golden Eagles (3-2) after coaching five seasons at Iowa State.

Georgia Tech upset No. 6 Georgia, 55-49, at Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets (4-0) have beaten the Bulldogs (5-2) two of the last three years after losing the first 24 meetings of the series.... Erin Lawless scored with four seconds left in overtime at UC Santa Barbara to give No. 14 Purdue (4-1) a 66-65 victory over the Gauchos (1-2), who scored the last five points of regulation.... No. 19 Kansas State (4-1) routed New Hampshire, 84-50, in the first round of the Wildcat Classic at Manhattan, Kan.
