Only One Path to Peace

Re “U.S. Won’t Negotiate With Sadr,” Aug. 11: How many Iraqis is the U.S. willing to kill in the name of their “liberation”?
The invasion and subsequent violence-ridden occupation of Iraq doesn’t protect the American people; it further endangers us. It is leaving only a bloody legacy in a country whose people never attacked us, not on Sept. 11, 2001, or at any other time. Sen. John F. Kerry only promises more of the same violence, virtually parroting President Bush.
Withdrawal of U.S. forces and repeal of L. Paul Bremer III’s “100 orders” tying Iraq’s economy to foreign corporations are the only path that can conceivably lead to peace in Iraq. The politicians won’t do that unless the American people demand it.
