From Times Staff Reports
A tractor-trailer overturned and spilled 20,000 pounds of powdered sulfur on the Long Beach Freeway in Long Beach on Wednesday night, prompting the closure of all southbound lanes, the California Highway Patrol said.
Authorities closed the freeway south of the Anaheim Street offramp for an indefinite period of time to allow crews to clean up the spill.
The driver of the tandem tractor-trailer rig was not injured in the 9:40 p.m. accident, but had to be freed from the cab, the CHP said.
