Female TV Host Reveals Domestic Violence

A popular Saudi television host has shocked her compatriots into openly talking about the long-hidden problem of violence against women by allowing a newspaper to photograph her bruised and bloodied face after she said a beating by her husband left her unconscious.

Rania Baz, host of a chatty show on state-run TV called “The Kingdom This Morning” has been hailed as a hero for her openness. A Saudi princess has stepped forward to pay Baz’s medical bills.

Baz said once she is back at work, she will press a violence-against-women awareness campaign. Her husband fled after the April 10 attack; police say he is wanted for attempted murder.
