Police shot and killed a barricaded 61-year-old gunman Saturday after nearly nine hours of negotiations, authorities said.
Hawthorne city police officers went to the 4100 block of West 120th Street on Friday, shortly after 7 p.m., in response to a call about a possible suicide, said Deputy David Cervantes of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers saw the man standing in his living room with a gun, which he fired at officers, Cervantes said. About 4:30 a.m., a special weapons team fired tear gas into the home and entered, Cervantes said.
Officers shot the man multiple times after he stood up and raised his gun toward them. The man’s identity was not released because his next of kin had not been notified.
