Energizing the Emmys
Regarding “TV’s In-Crowd” (Sept. 21), the Emmy Awards are boring year after year for all the reasons Marc Berman discussed. One way to give well-deserved recognition to the worthy but annually ignored would be for the academy to revise its rules so that any program, performer or craft person who wins an Emmy in a given category would be ineligible to be nominated in that category in the future. How many times do “The West Wing,” Doris Roberts, Patricia Heaton (you add the name or show) need be honored before a collective “boring” or “enough already!” is heard throughout living rooms across America. You win once, you’re honored, you’re the best, enjoy it. Then step aside and give another show, another actor, another director, etc., a shot at greatness.
