Congressman in Court on Manslaughter Charge

U.S. Rep. William J. Janklow made his first court appearance in Flandreau on second-degree manslaughter and reckless driving charges stemming from a deadly crash with a motorcycle.
One of Janklow’s lawyers, Ed Evans, requested a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to bring Janklow to trial. Investigators say Janklow was speeding Aug. 16 when he ran a stop sign and collided with a Harley-Davidson driven by Randolph E. Scott, of Hardwick, Minn.
Scott died at the scene.
