Re “Federal Shortfall Hits Record $374 Billion for Year; Critics Blame Tax Cuts,” Oct. 21: OK, so we predict the budget deficit will be $455 billion, then the federal government posts a $374.2-billion deficit in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30. This is a major victory for the administration’s spin doctors. If we had predicted $325 billion, it would have been a major defeat.
