Exelon to Cut Back on Edison Electricity

Midwest utility Exelon Corp. said it planned to buy less electricity next year from Edison Mission Energy, the troubled power-generating subsidiary of Rosemead-based Edison International. Exelon said the move would save about $100 million before taxes.
An Exelon spokeswoman said the $100-million savings included more than the payments to Edison, such as the savings on securing replacement power but she declined to elaborate.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Exelon said it terminated options to reserve 303 megawatts of power-generating capacity next year.
