Police killed three members of an outlawed Pakistan-based militant group in a gun battle on a highway outside Bombay, the nation’s financial hub, a senior police official said.
Bombay Police Commissioner Ranjit Sharma said the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba members opened fire when they were challenged by a police patrol. They were killed by return fire.
Lashkar-e-Tayyaba is an Islamic militant group that seeks the strife-torn Kashmir region’s independence from India, or its merger with Pakistan.
