Bush Imposes Sanctions on Zimbabwean Officials

President Bush invoked economic sanctions against Zimbabwe’s president, Robert Mugabe, and 76 officials of his government on the grounds that they have undermined the country’s democratic institutions.
Bush’s executive order blocks the officials from holding property in the United States and bars Americans from financial dealings with them.
It states that Mugabe’s policies are “contributing to the deliberate breakdown in the rule of law in Zimbabwe, to politically motivated violence.”
