Turn to Solar Energy

Re “Head of DWP’s Green L.A. Quits,” May 31: As a consumer of L.A. Department of Water and Power electricity, I was shocked when I learned that the DWP gets only 2.2% of its energy from clean, renewable sources. We get about 50% of our power from coal. Coal is the most polluting fossil fuel, and not only does L.A. have the dirtiest air in the U.S., it gets so much sunshine!
Instead of creating asthma and lung-disease-causing pollution every time we turn on a light, why don’t we utilize some of that solar energy? Los Angeles should require the DWP to increase its green power use.
