Houston Police Chief’s Perjury Case Dropped

A judge threw out a felony perjury case against Houston’s police chief, citing a lack of evidence.
Chief Clarence Bradford had been on trial for allegedly lying under oath during a disciplinary hearing for an officer with whom he has clashed.
State District Judge Brian Rains directed the jury to acquit Bradford after ruling the prosecution had not presented enough evidence to prove the allegation.
The charge had stemmed from a May hearing at which Bradford testified he had never sworn at subordinates, but an assistant chief contradicted his boss’ testimony.
