Flyover Complaints Could Have Been Worse

Re “Jets Departing JWA Fly Too Low, Some Say,” Nov. 29:
People comment about the noise of departing planes from John Wayne Airport at 7 a.m., and I can understand their complaints, but then I think back about the fight over El Toro and what the letters would be like if the county plan had survived.
According to the county plan, Orange County would have had 824 commercial daily operations of large passenger and cargo jets flying 24/7, with a good percentage of the cargo flights arriving and departing El Toro from midnight to 4 a.m.
End result: The voters of Orange County killed El Toro as an aviation facility, and with the persistence of Irvine, the Great Park will open for all of Orange County to enjoy in 2004.
