Man Found Guilty in Package-Bomb Slaying

A man was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for using a meticulously built package bomb to kill a woman he had stalked.
Steven Caruso, 48, was convicted of killing Sandra Berfield, 32, who died in 2000 when she opened the package, which had been left at her home shortly after a regular mail delivery. Her death spurred state lawmakers to pass new legal protections for women against stalkers.
Prosecutors said Caruso was obsessed with Berfield and often went to the restaurant where she was a waitress, demanded to be seated in her section, then lingered while she worked.
