Fox Television Chairman Resigns

Wire and Staff Reports

News Corp. said Fox Television Chairman Brian Mulligan resigned for personal reasons.

Mulligan will leave his job at the end of this month but will remain a consultant to the company, News Corp. said in a statement.

Mulligan oversees Fox Television stations, Fox cable networks and advertising sales, finance and relations with affiliate stations at the Fox Television network.

He resigned “to strike a better balance between my personal and professional life,” according to the statement.

When he took the job this year, some Fox executives raised questions about his lack of experience in the areas he would oversee, such as sports programming, news and TV stations.

Fox sources say Mulligan had difficulty adjusting to Fox’s swashbuckling culture, where meetings and feasibility studies are not part of the operating style.

The slowing U.S. economy has caused ad sales to decline this year at TV stations.

Company officials weren’t available for comment.
