Chance for Old Soldiers to Tell War Stories

The Library of Congress wants to collect the stories and recollections of World War I veterans, most of whom are more than 100 years old, before it is too late.
The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates there may be 2,500 World War I veterans still alive.
The library plans to collect oral histories beginning Monday. A team from the library’s new Veterans History Project will take calls on a toll-free line at (888) 371-5848, from veterans and their friends.
“There is no more fitting way to show our gratitude to our nation than to preserve the memories of those who have served us in wartime,” project director Ellen McCulluch-Lowell said in a statement.
