A man has been booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving after his truck smashed into a smaller pickup on the Golden State Freeway near Sylmar, killing a Bakersfield woman, authorities said Monday.
Grant Karapetian, 38, of Glendale, was driving a Ford F-150 on Sunday when he swerved into the center divider of the southbound Golden State, near the San Diego Freeway transition, said Officer Charles Blair, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
Karapetian’s truck rear-ended a small disabled pickup parked at the divider, causing the vehicle to overturn into the freeway, Blair said.
Dolores Pantoja, 56, who was sitting inside the disabled Dodge pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, who had been driving, had gone for help.
Karapetian suffered moderate injuries in the crash, authorities said.
